The magic of the XA4 lies in its optical redesign. Olympus equipped it with a premium 28mm f/3.5 Zuiko lens (5 elements in 5 groups) that offers a wonderfully wide perspective with incredibly low distortion. But the real party trick is its close-focus capability: sliding the focus lever down allows you to focus as close as 30cm (12 inches).

Because it is a zone-focus camera (where you estimate the distance), focusing at 30cm can be tricky. Olympus solved this with pure analog genius: the camera’s original wrist strap doubles as a precise measuring tape. If you extend the strap fully, the distance from the camera body to the knot is exactly 0.3 meters (or 0.5 meters to the mid-way mark), guaranteeing pin-sharp macro shots every time.
